Karimi Rimbui – Background Vocalist and Understudy |
At first impression, with her spectacles on, she may appear intimidating. But that is far from the truth. I like people and getting to know who and what they are about, within healthy boundaries of course! She describes herself self as “intriguing”. Her private life revolves around Church and Missions, Media and Arts. Currently, she is on internship as well as leading the music team at her local church, Mavuno Downtown. She is also playing in a relatively new band called Ma3. Her journey into the world of media, arts and entertainment began many years ago, when her parents took her and her brothers to a public speaking engagement at a local high school, she must have been less than eight years old. Karimi is beginning to discover that being on stage is not something that is easy, but she enjoys it! Ruth is forever grateful to Sterling Quality Entertainment Company, for “It is through their guidance and mentorship that I do have some of the experience of what it takes to put on a great performance as an individual and as a team,” she says. “At Sterling Quality, I had the privilege of taking on lead roles in some of their most memorable productions like Eric Wainaina’s “Lwanda Man of Stone” and “Fiddler on the Roof”. A few years later, Eric Wainaina reworked the folk tale into a story that is relevant to Nairobi into “Lwanda, A Ghetto Story”, where again, I had the privilege to take on the lead role of Syombua.” Ruth is now providing background vocals for Mo Faya the Musical and understudying for the role of Syombua (the female lead played by Valerie Kimani) which she plays beautifully. “My time at Mofaya, though short this time season, has been a great experience; specifically? to be around a very gifted, energetic, and dynamic group of people!” |
